I am an artist, a wife to Chris and a mama to my Zane and Izzy. As a fifth-generation native Texan, I find joy in the experimental nature of creation. The process of creating feels akin to being a mad scientist or a chef, as I play with materials, discover new techniques, and embrace happy accidents in my studio. I work across various mediums, focusing on one until I thoroughly explore its possibilities before moving on to another. Acrylic, oil, watercolor, gouache, and illustration are among my favorite mediums to work with.
My deep love for nature and the outdoors is evident in my work, particularly my affinity for Bison. This connection was solidified during a pivotal moment in my life when I left a ten year career, embarked on a solo camping trip with my dog to paint in Caprock Canyons, Texas. A profound and spiritual encounter with a bull bison during this journey set me on the path to becoming a professional artist, shaping my artistic career. The transformative experience of that solitary time in the canyons continues to influence my art, with Bison and the Texas Landscape holding a special place in my heart.
In addition to my artistic pursuits, I find solace in tending to my backyard chickens and cultivating pollinator gardens. These activities bring me a sense of meditation, relaxation, and inspiration. My goal as an artist is to create pieces that resonate with me on a personal level, reflecting my mood and the emotions of the moment. I resist confining myself to a single style, allowing my artistic process to evolve naturally.
Sharing my knowledge, time, and passion for creating with others is a core part of my artistic mission. I aim to inspire those who may doubt their creative abilities and encourage them to find joy in the process of creation. Following a devastating arson fire that destroyed my artwork and materials in 2022, I found healing and transformation through the kindness of others and being asked to help a friend co-teaching at the La Romita School of Art in Italy. This experience marked a significant turning point in my journey as an artist and woman, reigniting my sense of bravery and purpose.
The meditative power of art has been a constant source of solace and clarity for me, particularly during challenging times. The quote "The opposite of depression is not happiness. Its creation" deeply resonates with me, encapsulating the transformative role art has played in my life. Through my art and stories, I aim to inspire others to find balance, self-confidence, and peace through the act of creating, trusting the journey, and embracing the CREATIVE.
