Bio – Suzanne Buckland

As a visual artist currently living in Houston, Texas, I specialize in painting oil and acrylic on canvas, mixed mediums and drawing charcoal, pastel and oil pastel on paper, clay, photography and sculpture. I have been drawing and painting most of my life and studied art in The Netherlands over 40 years ago. I am a full-time professional artist and instructor. My goal is to put a smile on the face of humanity, to preserve nature, the natural world, our environment, and create a greater appreciation for art, nature, freedom and artistic expression.

I've participated in many art events in Houston for the last almost twenty years including Gallery Skye, Serenity Studios, White Linen Night, WarHous Visual Studios, Hans Payan Gallery in Montrose, Art on the Avenue, Art for Arthritis, Sculptures by Design (CityCentre & Greenway), Art on the Plaza at CityCentre, First Saturday Arts Market, Brenham Art Festival, Winter Street Studios, Spring Street Studios, The Doshi House, Katy Art & Frame, Pearland Chamber of Commerce Gallery in Pearland, A Peaceful Pet, Watson Gallery, St. Luke's United Methodist Church Rotunda Gallery, JoMar Visions and more. I'm also currently exhibiting at Primal Gallery in Dripping Springs, Texas. I'm the past President of the Houston based artists group, Artists Alive and Well, Inc. participating in and curating group exhibitions at The Continental Building (Downtown Houston), The Phoenix Tower (Greenway) and Houston City Hall among other area venues.

I formerly serve as Curator of Galerie Spectra, located in Memorial City Mall (2015-16), Houston, TX and the past President of Spectra Artists, Inc., a Texas Non-Profit Corporation, benefiting local artists, featuring all original artwork, installation art, trunk shows, workshops, classes, event space, meeting rooms, and artist interaction activities. I have also served as curator at Greenhouse Gallery & Art Center, Sean Anthony Salons, Sky Salon, Eliana's and many more venues.
One of my passions is sharing my art with people through creative workshops. I've taught all types of art in stores, schools, and retirement communities including assisted living facilities.
I'm currently recovering from cancer and feeling stronger every day. Good news, I was told I do not have cancer anymore in June 2022.

I have also been featured on Channel 11 News and in the Houston Chronicle.

My perspective varies. Like most other artists I have experimented with styles, media, and size. I paint in several different styles including ancient hieroglyphs to more classic post expressionism. My subjects include my take on ancient art forms, floral and botanical, landscapes and seascapes including sunsets, animals, birds and more. I am also available for commissioned artwork.
