Musiqa is dedicated to the performance of new classical music, with a focus on compositions created within the last 20 years. Our mission is'to'enrich and inspire the community through programs that integrate new music with other modern art-forms. Through innovative collaborations and educational programming, Musiqa strives to make modern repertoire accessible and vital to audiences of all ages and musical backgrounds. Since 2002, Musiqa has presented in the Houston area more than 200 concerts and performed the music of more than 180 emerging and established composers, including over 30 world premieres. An essential component in achieving our objectives, our educational program has grown into one of the largest programs of any contemporary music ensemble in the country: it has served more than 50,000 public school students and teachers at over 230 Greater Houston area schools in the past 12 years, all at no cost to the participants. Musiqa has received Adventurous Programming Awards from Chamber Music America and ASCAP in 2013 and 2016'the highest national honor for a group like ours. Other national recognition includes eight grants from the National Endowment for the Arts for our educational programming and eleven consecutive grants from the Aaron Copland Fund for Music.
