I have been working with wood for over 40 years. This includes making custom furniture, home remodeling, kitchen cabinets and more recently, turned wood art and decorative boxes. As a retired engineer, I really enjoy the pleasure that comes from designing and creating something new. I love the natural color of wood and use a wide variety of species in my work. I'm always looking to learn something new and am now experimenting with Japanese Kumiko.

I am largely self taught but have been trained in hand tool work making period windsor chairs by Michael Dunbar, a master chairmaker in New Hampshire. I also had a mentor named "Buster" Bates, who owned and operated a cabinet shop in Boston for many years. He was (now deceased) an absolute master in wood art and taught me much about the art of segmented woodturning. He was like an older brother and I loved him and his work.

I now work almost exclusively with hand tools. It's quieter and involves much less dust. Hand tool work is very soothing and satisfying.
