Near and Far

Melissa's current work explores place and community through abstract prints, paintings, and drawings. The linear elements throughout her work are developed using silhouette drawings of people who have influenced her life and view of Houston, as well as other places she has called home.

For this exhibition, Melissa has created paintings and drawings to depict friends and family, near and far, whom she thinks of often. A series of large paintings feature the abstracted silhouettes of her loved ones, and smaller works focus on more detailed elements. Together they represent connections within individual relationships and her community as a whole.
