Art of the Game: A Public Art Collaboration
As Houston welcomes the world for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Sawyer Yards and Houston Arts Alliance are joining forces to celebrate the city’s creative spirit through Art of the Game, a public art initiative where global soccer passion meets local artistic vision.
Made possible by a donation of five large-scale soccer ball sculptures from CenterPoint Energy, the project invited five Sawyer Yards artists to reimagine these oversized forms as one-of-a-kind works of art — each inspired by the energy, diversity, and excitement of the World Cup. The selected artists are:
• Oluseyi Soyege, Studio #118 - The Silos at Sawyer Yards
• David Maldonado, Studio #206 - Silver Street Studios
• Taft McWhorter, Studio #B140 - Winter Street Studios
• Kevin Peterson, Studio #B155 - Winter Street Studios
• Carrie Swim, lyrical abstraction painter - Studio #108 - Spring Street Studios
Installed throughout the Main Yard at Sawyer Yards, the finished sculptures will form a vibrant, walkable public art trail for residents, visitors, and international guests alike.
Art of the Game is more than an exhibition — it’s an investment in Houston’s creative community, supporting local artists, activating public spaces, and showcasing the city’s cultural identity on a global stage. Through this collaboration, Sawyer Yards and Houston Arts Alliance proudly position Houston’s artists as cultural ambassadors during one of the world’s most celebrated sporting events.
Special thanks to The Deal Company, Silver Street Capital, and CenterPoint Energy for sponsoring this exhibition.
