Gretchen Sparks: Go BIG or Go Home

Artist Gretchen Sparks presents Go BIG or Go Home, a monumental showcase of paintings fusing her knowledge and love for geography, travel and exploration. The exhibition is on view in the West Gallery of Silver Street Studios through November 29. Sparks writes of her work:

"My art sees beyond the science of a landscape. Rooted in geology and a personal 'sense of earth', each piece reflects how I interpret the physical world through the lens of my life’s experiences. My art takes earth’s physical shapes and ideas and turns them into shapes of substance and thought. By blending texture, color, and pattern, I explore the intersection of science and the natural concept of purpose. For this exhibit we chose images from Texas - my home of 48+ years - and California, where I was born and raised. Over the years I have driven and flown between the two states countless times; and for each trip I always try to go a slightly different route. There are so many changes in geography and geology between the two, and all need to be experienced. For each piece in the exhibit I have written a short statement as to what influenced my choosing this particular place and space; which is wildly different for each piece.
