Soccer—or fútbol—is more than a sport; it is a global language. As Houston prepares to take the world stage as a host city for the FIFA 2026 World Cup, Sabine Street Studios invited local artists to join the celebration. We are welcoming thousands of international fans to our doorstep, and we want to show them the unmatched creativity and diversity that defines our city.
For Ballet of the Masses, more than 40 Houston artists have transformed regulation-size soccer balls into unique works of art. Suspended from the ceiling at Sabine Street Studios' South Gallery, the soccer balls create a vibrant aerial installation, like a constellation of imaginative planets. The incredible variety between all of the artists is evident through the plethora of styles, skills, techniques, and media, all celebrating the dynamism and joy within sports and art.
In addition to the opening reception scheduled for Thursday, May 21st from 6pm to 9pm, this exhibition also includes a special award ceremony hosted by a special guest juror, sports commentator and "crack" Glenn Davis. This special award ceremony takes place on Thursday, June 4th, from 6pm to 8pm. Both events are free and open to the public.
