What if a painting could become a place you escape into?

Join us for an intimate evening with Houston artist Erika Alonso as part of our Studio Conversations series at Restoration Studio.

Erika is known for her dreamlike narrative landscapes, where abstraction, figuration, and imagined terrain come together through watercolor, acrylic, ink, charcoal, layered mark-making, and lyrical movement.
Her work feels alive with creatures, symbols, memory, rhythm, and atmosphere. Figures appear and disappear. Landscapes shift. Lines repeat like ritual. Color moves with emotion. What first feels abstract slowly becomes a world.

As a second-generation Cuban-American artist raised in Southern California and now rooted in Houston, Erika draws from the landscapes, memories, and emotional impressions of the places she has lived. Her paintings explore environmental fragility, displacement, imagination, and the need to pause long enough to see what is waiting beneath the surface.

During our conversation, Erika will share her creative journey, her intuitive process, the role of memory and movement in her work, and how her paintings become spaces of wonder, reflection, escape, and emergence.

Following the conversation, participants will create their own expressive watercolor and ink piece inspired by Erika’s process of layered mark-making, intuitive landscapes, and the creatures and stories that emerge when we slow down and let the materials lead.
