view facebook event

The Community is invited to attend the ReelArt Crawl on Thursday, February 16, 2023 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Sabine Street Studio Gallery, 1907 Sabine Street. ReelArt is one element of ReelAbilities Houston, an art, film and music festival annually produced by the Jewish Family Service (JFS) Alexander Institute for Inclusion in collaboration with the Mayor’s Office for People with Disabilities, which uses the arts as a vehicle to promote inclusion and amplify the voices of people with disabilities locally and nationally. ReelAbilities takes place throughout the month of February at a variety of venues in Houston.

Much of the art included in the ReelArt exhibit is from Celebration Company artists. Celebration Company, part of the JFS Alexander Institute of Inclusion, provides life skills and meaningful employment to
individuals with disabilities who provide services and create products that celebrate the good of life.  The artists work in a variety of mediums such as painting, papermaking, photography, and glass fusion. This
wide range of mediums allow the artist multiple ways to excel at expressing themselves, including those who have communication barriers. Celebration Company’s mission is to help adults with cognitive
disabilities acquire the vocational and life skills needed to reach their desired goals. Art will be available for purchase during the Art Crawl.

John Bramblitt is ReelArt 2023’s visiting artist. John is a successful, full-time painter, who happens to be blind, and advocate for people with disabilities. During the Art Crawl on Thursday evening, John will be
creating a painting and engaging the public. A number of Sabine Street artist studios will be open and participating in the Art Crawl including: Kelly Best Bourgeois; Jill Garrett Photography; Brionne C Dunham; Gallery One; Andrea Venson; TD Paul Studio; Kari Breitigam; SJ Art and Frame Gallery; Jenn Tanguy; Chris Pinon; and more.
