Rona Lesser

Form and Figure

visit website

Rona Lesser has been making figurative work from live models doing short poses for many years, and has developed a recognizable style of line and shadow in watercolor. Recently, she started playing with semi- blind contour drawing from life, but mostly referencing fashion model photographs in magazines such as Paper City. With the approach of semi-blind contour, Lesser looks at the model or reference photograph and not at her hands, creating more abstract and interesting compositions based on figures. She then takes the shapes formed and adds even more shapes and colors with watercolor. It is a fun process, freeing her up from drawing realistically. This exhibit combines recent work done in both fashions.

About the Artist:

Rona Lesser is an artist and art educator who has worked in many mediums before settling down to work mostly in watercolor and acrylic. She fell in love with drawing people in her first drawing class and that has continued to be a main interest, while adding painting landscapes from observation out doors and personal photographs. This reflects her love of nature. She has recently been awarded honors from the Watercolor Society Houston and had work picked for juried competitions in Houston, N.Y and Colorado. Her studio is #123 in the Silos at Sawyer Yards, where a sampling of her work can be seen. She is a docent at the Blaffer Art Museum which gives her a window into contemporary art.
