Cookie’s Art Odyssey is a rare and unconventional exhibition showcasing the breadth of Cookie Ashton’s creative journey. A seasoned artist with decades of experience and a practice shaped by life in Venezuela, Mexico, England, France, and the U.S., Ashton brings together an eclectic mix of original works across multiple mediums. From realism to full abstraction, this mixed media show includes large-scale abstracts, watercolors, paintings on canvas and PVC, printmaking, and never-before-seen series arranged in sets of three and four. While many of Ashton’s works are popular with galleries, this exhibition offers a special opportunity to view and purchase pieces that have remained in her private collection. With a background in both art and design, Ashton invites visitors to explore a dynamic and deeply personal body of work that spans continents, techniques, and decades of discovery.

Cookie Ashton draws deep inspiration from her many years living and traveling abroad, experiences she considers essential to her artistic journey. She began painting at the age of 12 while living in Venezuela, which led to serious art training in Maracaibo and opportunities to teach. Her studies continued at university and during her time in Mexico, England, and France, where she participated in classes, workshops, and private instruction. After moving to Houston, she attended the Glassell School of Art and continued to pursue workshops and seminars across the U.S. and internationally.

Ashton maintains an active studio practice in Arts District Houston, where she follows an intensive painting schedule. Despite the demands of her work, she welcomes visitors to drop by and view her art. With longstanding gallery relationships, she regularly exhibits in galleries and art fairs.

Commissioned work for private, corporate, and institutional clients is a major focus of Ashton’s practice. She brings a strong interest in design and interior aesthetics to each project. Her attention to detail and sensitivity to space have proven invaluable for clients in universities, hospitals, hotels, offices, and private residences. She attributes her success to both her artistic vision and her commitment to understanding and fulfilling each client’s needs.

Her public artworks can be found at the Stafford Center for Performing Arts, the administration building at Texas State University, the Texas State Nursing School in Round Rock, Memorial Hermann Breast Care Centers, and Texas A&M University, among others.
