Dana Cargile’s work begins with a willingness to let paint meander. She is interested in the space between intention and accident — where color spills, settles, and finds its own order. Rather than correcting these moments, she follows them, allowing composition to emerge through restraint and attention. The paintings hold traces of movement, pause, and resolution, inviting the viewer to linger and discover hidden details.
Dana Cargile has been painting since she was a child, and eventually pursued formal art education at the Southwest Museum of Art in Midland, TX, Baylor University, as well as the Glassell School of Art in Houston, TX. Cargile's painting style can be attributed to growing up in West Texas. This is reflected in the loose, painterly and impressionistic qualities in her own work. As an instructor, she taught art to 6th through 12th graders at The Brookhill School in Bullard, TX, and to Tyler Junior College Continuing Education students for several years before moving to Houston in 2021. Cargile's art studio is located in The Silos at Sawyer Yards, #317. She is regularly selected for juried art shows and is represented by The House of Wynne Gallery in Tyler. She illustrated the children’s books “Pet Fairy,” “The Art of Christmas,” “The Lost Bicycle,” and has created art for church bulletins distributed nationwide by Anchor Wallace Publications. Cargile is also active in promoting nonprofits through her art. She served as the Children’s Artist for Cattle Baron’s Little Wranglers and worked with children receiving cancer treatment to create paintings to fund raise for the American Cancer Society.
